Mosaic Forest Management appoints new president and CEO

Mosaic Forest Management has appointed Rob Gough as its president and CEO, effective September 1.

Gough has nearly 30 years of international natural resources experience, serving most recently as Mosaic’s senior vice-president and chief commercial officer and, before that, within the mining sector at Coalspur and in progressively senior leadership positions at BHP.

“The board is pleased to welcome Rob as Mosaic’s next president and CEO. Rob is a successful leader and people manager and has a proven track record in business development, value creation, and change management. He played an instrumental role in the creation of Mosaic, Canada’s largest privately-owned timberlands producer, through the affiliation of TimberWest and Island Timberlands,” said Jake Kerr, chair of the board.

“It is truly an honour to lead Mosaic, with its long and proud history of more than a century,” said Gough. “Now is a time of great opportunity to build an even stronger future for Mosaic with our relentless focus on safety and sustainable forest management while growing strong customer relationships and First Nations partnerships with our team of deeply talented and dedicated employees and contractors.”

Gough succeeds president and CEO Jeff Zweig, who is leaving the company effective August 31, in a previously announced planned departure. Mr. Zweig will work with Mr. Gough on an effective transition.

“On behalf of the board, I want to thank Jeff for his leadership and significant contributions in his seven-plus years with the company,” added Kerr. “Under his leadership, Jeff led the creation of Mosaic and helped drive substantial improvements in safety, sustainability, and financial performance.”

Under Zweig’s leadership, Mosaic was the first forest company in B.C. to have its Progressive Aboriginal Relations program certified. It was the first forest company globally to certify its organizational carbon footprint. It recently launched the largest nature-based carbon credit project in Canada. During his tenure, Mosaic made significant progress on diversity, equity and inclusion and was recognized as one of B.C.’s top employers for 2022.
