in January-May 2022, wood imports in Finland amounted to 2.43 million m³. On an annualized basis, the figure decreased by 55%.

In the total volume of imported timber, 46% were pulpwood, 36% – chips and 3% – logs. Compared to the same period last year, pulpwood imports decreased by 61%. Imports of wood chips decreased by 53%, and logs – by 66%.

In May 2022, wood imports amounted to 0.28 million m³.

In January-May 2022, 59% of imported timber came from Russia, 18% from Estonia, and 13% from Latvia. In May, only 13% of imported timber came from Russia and was mostly by-products: wood waste, sawdust and pellets).

In January-May 2022, the value of Finnish forest industry exports amounted to 5.78 billion euros in real terms. On an annualized basis, the figure decreased by 7%.

The value of exports of timber products in May amounted to 1.26 billion euros.

At the same time, the export value of the woodworking industry amounted to 2 billion euros and increased by 19% in real terms compared to the previous year. The value of exports of sawn timber increased by 16%, the volume decreased by 4%. The value of plywood exports increased by 8%, while the volume decreased by 2%.

The real value of pulp and paper exports was €3.78 billion, down 16% from the previous year. At the same time, the export value of bleached sulphate pulp decreased by 18%, while the volume decreased by 23%. The value of magazine paper exports decreased by 33% and volume by 44%. The value of high-quality paper exports decreased by 64%, while the volume decreased by 73%. The export value of cardboard increased by 10% and the volume by 5%.
