At the end of 2021, about 2.5 million tons of wood fuel pellets were produced in Russia. However, in 2022, local factories have significantly reduced production.
Ekaterina Mikhailova, Executive Director of the Russian Pellet Union (RPS), says: “At the beginning of June, about 10% of pellet plants suspended production. There was a logistical collapse both in the water and automobile direction, and in the railroad. After July 10, there is a risk of suspension of 90% of production due to the lack of export prospects: the capacity of the available market in the eastern direction (South Korea, Japan) is insufficient for Russian production volumes.
At the same time, the expert emphasizes that pellets produced by Russian enterprises have a low degree of competitiveness, and there is practically no consumption of pellets within the country, its accounting is not kept.
