A recent study published in the journal Nature finds that the U.S. needs to develop Strategic Forest Reserves to protect biodiversity and mitigate climate change and that forests in Oregon are a high priority for protection to help the global effort to protect 30% of natural areas succeed. This panel will discuss the prioritization framework from this study, highlight current campaigns in Oregon to protect priority areas, and examine the impacts of ongoing logging in southwestern Oregon to communities and ecosystems that could otherwise be part of a climate and biodiversity solution.
